Spartans LAX Battle Bigger Culver City Squad
The Santa Clarita Spartans took another road trip to the Westside to face off against a tough opponent in Culver City. Fielding a scrappy squad of dedicated lacrosse players, the Spartans drew first blood and held on to a 1-0 lead deep into the second quarter.
HS Lacrosse playoffs underway
LA Times - The Southern Section doesn't conduct official playoffs for lacrosse -- or any other sport, unless 20% of its member schools participate. But that didn't keep the lacrosse community from organizing its own playoffs, culminating in a May 9 championship game between the Orange County and the North Division boys' champions at Mission Viejo Trabuco Hills.
Crespi's Bennett won't be nervous this time
LA Times (4/30) One of the biggest surprises last football season was Encino Crespi's reaching the Southern Section Pac-5 Division championship game behind sophomore quarterback Bryan Bennett, who took over as the starter in the first quarter of the first game because of a season-ending knee injury to Kevin Prince.
Two Former Cougars Go In NFL Draft
Former College of the Canyons football players –cornerback Justin Tryon and linebacker Joey LaRocque – were selected in the in the fourth and seventh rounds by the Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears, respectively of the 2008 NFL Draft this past weekend. They become the fifth and sixth Cougars to be drafted by an NFL team since the program was reinstated at COC in 1998.

Mrs. Dilley past away after battling several health issues over the last few years in addition to the loss of her beloved husband, Richard Dilley. Wirthlin: 'It's a miracle I'm alive'
The Signal - Canyon High student/athlete Stephen Wirthlin said he's lucky to be alive after a car accident on Saturday morning in Gorman. The 17-year-old was on a Boy Scouts retreat when the car he was a passenger in landed awkwardly on a dip, then flipped a couple of times, taking out a fence and a couple of trees.
SCV Players Honored at QB Combine
QB Combine concluded it's spring session on Sunday and recognized the Santa Clarita Valley as producing the best young quarterback prospects in all of SoCal. Coach Jio Lucci and his staff named three SCV youth QB's as members of the Elite 7.
Spartans Lacrosse Earn Victory
The Santa Clarita Spartans lacrosse team claimed a victory in their first game of the season against a more experienced squad from Cheviot Hills at Rancho Park in Los Angeles on Saturday. The Spartans relied on aggressive play and an attacking style to build a quick and early lead over the Riptide. Coach Steve Tyson managed the Spartans to a dominate victory after several weeks of preparation.

CIF "Association" Rule Eliminated
CIF - For the first time in 32 years the CIF Southern Section will eliminate out-of-season restrictions on coaches working with their student-athletes.
Home Depot Center to stay with title games

GCYFL Passing Event Set
The Gold Coast Youth Football League will hold their inaugural Passing Event on June 7 & 8 at Golden Valley HS in Canyon Country. SCV Gridiron will organize the event which will be hosted by the Santa Clarita Wildcats & Santa Clarita Grizzlies. Both programs participate in the GCYFL and are charter members of the Santa Clarita Youth Sports Association (SCYSA).
Vote on public-private playoff proposal could be tabled
LA Times - As a vote nears on whether to create separate playoff divisions for private and public schools in the Southern Section, Patrick Lee, principal at Bellflower St. John Bosco, said Monday he has asked supporters of the proposal to postpone a decision for one year in favor of launching a task force to discuss the issue more thoroughly.
