GCYFL Passing Event Set

James McGoldrick, SCV Gridiron (4/22)

The Gold Coast Youth Football League will hold their inaugural Passing Event, June 7 & 8 at Golden Valley HS in Canyon Country.  SCV Gridiron will organize the event which will be hosted by the Santa Clarita Wildcats & Santa Clarita Grizzlies.  Both programs participate in the GCYFL and are charter members of the Santa Clarita Youth Sports Association (SCYSA).

Participation is open to Junior I, Junior II and Senior teams and players that are currently registered to play in the 2008 Gold Coast season.  Over 60 teams are confirmed in these age groups for 2008 and most are expected to sign up for this passing tournament.

The tournament will be set up along the lines of high school passing events with teams placed in groups for round robin play.  The top team from each group, or Pool, will advance to the Championship elimination round to determine division winners.

This event marks the first time the Gold Coast has sanctioned a pre-season event for its teams and players.  The passing event will provide additional opportunities for players to hone their skills in a competitive environment.

Passing events for youth players are beginning to spring up after SCV Gridiron proposed the idea to several youth football organizations in 2007.  QB Combine is hosting their CA 7 on 7 Passing Event on May 18 and the PYFL will hold their tournament at Hart HS, June 14-15.
