DLS Inducted into State HoF

DE LA SALLE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PROGRAM TO BE INDUCTED INTO CALIFORNIA SPORTS HALL OF FAME

The Spartans are the first high school program to be honored.

De La Salle High School (www.dlshs.org), a Christian Brothers Catholic school serving boys from the East Bay Area, today announced the upcoming induction of the Spartan football program into the California Sports Hall of Fame (www.californiasportshalloffame.org).

Along with the De La Salle football program, individual class of 2008 inductees include: Willie Mays, Dave Winfield, Cheryl Miller, Dan Fouts, Vin Sculley and Don Quarrie. Team inductees include the Los Angeles Lakers and UCLA Bruins basketball from the John Wooden era. Past inductees have included sports legends Reggie Jackson, Magic Johnson, Tommy Lasorda, John Wooden and Bill Walsh, among others.

“This is a great honor for every student-athlete who’s ever played in our program,” said Bob Ladouceur, head varsity football coach. “It’s even more special when you look at the quality of athletes and teams that we’ll be associated with.” Added athletic director Leo Lopoz, “We’ve always received great support from students, fans
and the community so this is something that they should be proud of as well.”

The ceremony took place on Sunday, April 6th, at the Pacific Palms Resort, City of Industry, California. The gala dinner and induction will also feature an auction of rare sports memorabilia, with the proceeds benefiting children’s education and sports by helping to fund after school programs.
