Second Day In the Saddle: The Valencia High School Purple and Gold camp is like a fine wine, it gets better with age.
The second day of this camp was chock full of fun drills and even bigger attendance, it seemed. It my quick talk with the clinic Head Man, Joe Monteleone, he was very pleased with the first days activities and was already talking about getting ready for day number three. “Fun stuff”, said Coach Joe, as he watched his covey of players in all shapes and sizes. “Wait until tomorrow (Wednesday night) if you want to see some fun…”. Coach Monteleone was referring to what he had in store for the students on Day 3, a major two-hand touch tourney and a kicking contest.
Coach Monte had the teams broken down in groups of 8 and had the fields they were going to play at. It appeared to be a “battle plan” and Coach Monte was the Field General. He even seemed “giddy” that the boys were going to be playing some real football tomorrow.
The Purple and Gold clinic is an excellent example of why Fox Sports compares the Santa Clarita Valley to the State of Texas when they call us a “football hotbed”. People like Coach Monte are why our community remains consistently in the national spotlight.
So to see some stellar “pool play” games tomorrow, stop by Valencia High School and watch Coach Monte get “giddy”. JT
