Purple and Gold off to a Smashing Start!
“Well how did it go son…?” I asked my 12 year old. “We had fun…did you see me make a field goal?” my budding kicker said. “I kicked a 20 yarder!”. Actually, it was more like a 12 yarder, but the key here is that the kids had fun and my boy tends to tell stories like his old man, fish stories.
The Valencia High Vikings Purple and Gold Youth Football Camp was a well run machine its' first night with a plethora of support from the Varsity football team and coaching staff. Coach Joe Monteleone, the puppet-master of the event, kept the coaches on their toes and the players on their game. He had the players change stations every 8 to 10 minutes and his timing to change things and make it interesting was impeccable. “Intensity” he instructed his coaches. “Hustle” he encouraged other players.
Stations included quarterback drills, receiving drills, tackling stations and yes, even a kicking tournament!
Overall, the camp provided an excellent base for both experienced and newby youth players alike. From the sideline view of this old coach, it seemed like the players were motivated, inspired and getting quality instruction. Kudos to Coach Monteleone, Coach Muir and Valencia High Vikings football program for providing a fun and active environment to learn football. The icing on the cake is that the camp provides dinner to the players after the camp. Nice touch Coach!
If I am not mistaken, you can still sign up your player for the last two nights of the clinic, July 9 and 10. The clinic starts at 5 PM at Valencia High School.
