High school rugby championships take center stage

Notre Dame de La Salette Academy of Olivet, Ill., has 51 students.   Forty play rugby.  This weekend, the Roman Catholic all-male boarding school is one of 16 teams from 11 states and the District of Columbia that will compete in the USA Rugby Boys High School Championships in Murray, Utah.

Headmaster Rev. Michael McMahon styles La Salette's chances as a "proverbial David vs. Goliath." The other schools are bigger, and not only in terms of enrollment.  Senior inside center Charles Deister is 5-11, 140 pounds. "I don't look like I belong on the field," he says.
