SC Grizzlies to join Gold Coast

SCV Gridiron, (12/4)

The GCYFL recently approved the expansion of it’s' presence in the Santa Clarita Valley with the formation of the Santa Clarita Grizzlies. The Grizzlies will begin play in 2008 and utilize Golden Valley High School as its' home field, providing more football opportunities for players in the eastern portion of the SCV.

The Grizzlies program will be managed under the guidance of the Santa Clarita Wildcats Board of Directors.  The program will offer competitive tackle football with age & weight restrictive divisions in accordance with Gold Coast bylaws.  Cheerleading will also be offered.

Wildcat President, James McGoldrick said, "There is so much interest for football in Santa Clarita.  This is the appropriate time to expand our reach into areas that we have not been able to effectively serve with just one Chapter.  Our relationship with Golden Valley High School provides us the necessary resources to develop young football players and prepare them for the next level."

John Torres, Wildcat Co-Founder added, "The Santa Clarita Valley remains a hotbed for football, especially youth football.  The addition of a youth program in the Canyon Country area is well over-due.  I anticipate this program to be a huge success as it gives football families an option in the Canyon Country area of the SCV. "The strategic partnership we have formed with Golden Valley High was the key ingredient in making this a reality and the benefits for the community will be immediate."

GVHS Head Coach Steve Pinkston stated, “Golden Valley is proud to be associated with the great tradition of Santa Clarita youth football.  We look forward to seeing some of the best football in valley being played here on our campus.  Go Grizzlies!”
